Coil Curl Hair Extensions Wash & Condition Routine
So, you’ve decided to invest your hard earned coins on high quality hair extensions in just the right texture and now you want to do everything you can to (ehem) protect your investment. Just like your natural hair, you want to handle your textured hair extensions with the utmost care. Not only will this ensure they look great when you wear them, but will help them last as long as possible.
Unlike straight or wavy hair extensions, curly and coily hair extensions require a bit more TLC. In order to maintain that fabulous curl pattern there’s a few things you want to keep in mind:
Moisture and slip are your best friends -- Be sure to wet the hair before styling, detangling or adding product. With that, the ideal products to use are slippery conditioners and leave-in conditioners, moisturizing gels and stylers or water-based twist or braid creams.
Heavy oils and butters are NOT your friends -- Avoid using heavy oils and butters on your extensions. These heavier ingredients can cause build up and leave the hair unmanageable. If you’ve experimented with these products and are having trouble styling, don’t worry -- all is not lost. Simply wash with a clarifying shampoo to remove the build up and continue on with the recommended products and routine.
Air drying is ideal, blow drying is OK -- For that super defined, natural curl look, it’s best to allow the curls to air dry completely before styling. For other styles, like stretched roller sets or twist outs, it’s OK to blow dry the hair on a low-med heat setting. You never want to use high heat on your curly extensions as this can cause damage to the curl pattern.
