After ditching chemical relaxers nearly 20 years ago, Whitney set out to find styling options that worked for her newly discovered natural hair texture. She began sharing her hair journey, the products she used and her favorite styling techniques on YouTube; building a community that was also finding their way around newly discovered curls and coils.
Over the years, her top priority has been to maintain her hair's health while embracing her natural texture. Whether that was protective styling, avoiding heat or not using bleach; she found methods that work for her lifestyle and hair texture. Over time, she began understanding what to avoid, what products work well and her go-to styles, making wash days a bit more predictable.
During these transformative years, Whitney began singing professionally and was introduced to clip-in hair extensions. These extensions were a very convenient and non-damaging way for her to switch up her look and create performance-ready hairstyles. However, they only came in straight or slightly wavy textures at that time. This meant she had to use high heat to straighten her hair in order for it to blend properly. After spending much time nurturing her precious curls, Whitney set out to create a better way for textured hair lovers to wear extensions without damaging their natural hair.
After months of testing, Melanj Hair made its debut in March 2019. As of today, we have served thousands of customers around the world who want a product that compliments their hair without compromising it. Something that looks and feels so natural it can go completely undetected. And, most importantly, something that feels naturally them.

As a natural hair influencer & content creator, Whitney Osborne, Owner & CEO of Melanj Hair, has been recognized for her contributions to the natural hair community. She has been featured in Allure Magazine, 21Ninety and was a Glossier Black-Owned Beauty Brand grant recipient in 2020. In 2024, Melanj Hair's best-selling Coil Curl Clip-ins received the 21Ninety Beauty Award for Best Hair Product.
When she's not testing product and trying new hairstyles, Whitney is a wife and mom of 2. She loves music and performing and has had the opportunity to tour as a background vocalist with artists like John Legend and Demi Lovato. Whitney is passionate about helping others look good so they can be their very best.

I originally purchased these clip ins over a year ago and at the time wanted a blown out look, which wasn't the right fit for this texture, but I just got a silk press and I can't overemphasize how perfectly this blends with my straightened hair! It has that "this is my real hair" look that a sew-in just can't give. If you're looking for some additional length/volume to spice up your silk press, look no further.

I absolutely love this hair and I am not exaggerating!!!! The texture was soft, natural and had an awesome smell to it.
The packaging was awesome, and the shipping was very accurate and quick.
There is a suggestion to wash the hair prior to installing. I opted out of this option because the hair was in great condition.
After wearing for a few weeks, I did wash the hair, and the texture reverted to its natural state with no issues.
All in all this hair is a 10/10. I will be ordering again soon.
I love this hair! It’s pricey but worth it. If you take care of it like you do your own hair, it will last forever.
Out of the box, the hair is pretty. I smelled chemicals immediately, and I should have sent it right back because, from my experience, hair that smells that strongly never holds for long (it smelled of chemicals even after 3 months of washing). I was right. It definitely gives a very full look with one clip-in bundle. The curl pattern is more of a looser zig-zag than cork screw. If you're experienced with blending, you can work with it, but if your curl pattern is ringlets/spiral, this isn't a match. It sheds easily before even installing. I was more gentle with this hair than any bundles I've ever had, and still, it only lasted 3 months. I didn't use heavy styling creams. I washed gently weekly. The hair was coming out in clumps until it was so thin I looked sick. I bought this hair because I AM sick and my hair is thinning due to my autoimmune disease. Now I've wasted $300 plus.
Have had this hair for 3 months and I’m so glad that I invested in Melanj Hair. I love the company name printed on the inside of the clips, they’re comfortable and the hair mimics down to the curl of my natural hair and the shrinkage afterwards. There is minimal shedding and I’ve been able to make ponytails, French braids and other styles with this hair and people have commented that my hair is so thick and pretty! I just send them to Melanj website!
